Mera Peak and Island Peak (Nepal)

The ascent of two peaks of 6 000mt. in a few days is a particular occasion and of great satisfaction. These peaks are in the presence of the highest mountains on the globe, this occasion is one not to pass up. Starting from the base of Kumbu Valley, we re-ascend the wild and uninhabited Hinku Valley to Zatr Teng pass (4 943mt.). Re-descending part of the valley we then re-ascend along the Mera glacier to its North hill at 5 415mt. From here we re-ascend the north shoulder to the peak 6 476mt. with nail-biting panoramas on Makalu 8 320mt., Barunze 7 523mt. and Amadablam 6 973mt. For the return we re-ascend Hongu valley and a trek to Amphu Labtsa Hill at 5 780mt., and then descend to Island Peak base camp 6 247mt. For who has hot feet there is an ascent, always on this peak that offers an amazing panorama on the south face of Lotse 8 535mt. The return takes place along the populous Kumbu Valley, visiting the famous Tempoche and Namche Bazar Villages, and once again at Lukla, from where via aeroplane we return to Katmandù, and from here to Italy.

Schedule

Day 1: Departure from Milan
Day 2: Arrive at Katmandù – Tourism and preparing the gear.
Day 3: Aeroplane flight from Katmandù – Lukla and start trekking to the first Satr Teng Hill 4 943mt.
Day 4: Get acclimatized.
Day 5: First camp of colle, at Chutanga, crossino the Zatr Teng hill 4 943mt.
Day 6: Chutanga to Tuli Kharhara 4 400mt.
Day 7: Tuli Kharhara 4 400mt. – Tashing Ongma 3 500mt.
Day 8: Ongma 3 500mt. – Tangnag 4 250mt.
Day 9: Tashing Tangnag 4 250mt. get acclimatized.
Day 10: Tashing Tangnag 4 259mt. – Dig Khare 4 731mt.
Day 11: Dig Khare 4 731mt. – Mera la 5 415mt.
Day 12: Mera la 5 415mt. get acclimatized.
Day 13: Mera la 5 415mt. – Mera peak 6 476mt. – Mera la 12 hours
Day 14: Mera la 5 415mt. – Hunku Lake 5 200mt.
Day 15: Hunku Lake 5 200mt. – Amphu Labtsa Hill 5 780mt. Island Peak Base Camp.
Day 16: Island Peak Base Camp 6 189mt. – 7-9 hours to the peak, 3-4 hours return. Ascent on steep terrain first rocky then a combination and at the end glacial, with the last slope at 50° for about 70-100mt. Return to Chukung 4 730mt.
Day 17: Chukung 4 730mt. – Pangpoche 3985mt.
Day 18: Pangpoche 3 985mt. – Namche 5-6 hours.
Day 19: Namche – Lukla – Katmandù 5 hour + flight.
Day 20: Departure from Katmandù.
Day 21: Arrive at Milan.

The schedule can undergo changes due to weather conditions and/or accommodation which is decided by the organization. The cost is indicative 3 199 euro, includes the flight from Italy to Katmandù and the flight to Lukla. The accommodation in the Katmandù Hotel, the trek with tents and complete meals, the bearers, the sherpa and the Italian Alpine Guide. Drinks and tips are not include in the rate.

To make the operations of entering in Napal easier, I advise the participants, once the booking has been made, to send me their passports (that should have a validation of 6 months from the date of start of the trekking) to my address, in this way the passports will be sent together to the Nepal consulate in Rome for the visas. The cost of the visa at the moment is 30 dollars if it changes it will be communicated.
The booking is accepted with a deposit of 1 500.00 euro of which 99.00 euro can not be reimbursed.

Note:
– For the ascents of Mera Peak and Island Peak we walk in a roped party and for this reason it is necessary a good use of the ice-axe, crampons and the correct behaviour in a roped party from everyone in the group.
– It is essential to be well prepared physically and technically with strong trekking skills and some time spent above 3 500mt. altitude.
– The duration of daily walking is between 4 to 6 hours per trek, 10-12 hours per peak
