Kilimanjaro

kilimangiaro
The KIBO or Kilimanjaro, is the highest peak on the black contenent and dominates, from the top of its 5 895mt., you see the forest and deserts of Tanzania and Kenia. The itinerary that we offer is Marangu route, the most famous and beautiful route to ascend; in few other areas in the world you have such a great variety in climate and surroundings as such. We take 5 days to ascend and descend and we have planned it in a way to give the excursionists time to get acclimatized.

Plan

Day 1: Arrive at Nairoby. Transfer to Arusha for lunch at the Impala Hotel. In the afternoon transfer to Momella Wildlife Lodge, for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Breakfast and transfer to the entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park, for registration and payment of the entrance taxes, where we meet the Guides and the bearers. After that we start the trek (3 – 3:30 hours) in a fascinating forest to Mandara Hut.

Day 3: After a few minutes of walking we leave the forest behind us and the small crater Maundi, to continue the march through dense grasslands, reaching the Horombo Hut (5-6 hours), a place in a small valley, with a beautiful expanse of gigantic seneci trees.

Day 4: Day of getting acclimatized. Ascend to Mawenzi Refuge and re-descend to Horombo Hut.

Day 5: After sleeping comfortably and having breakfast, we continue trekking, across Sella of the winds and Mawenzi, and crossing a lunar landscape to reach Kibo Hut (5-6 hours).

Day 6: About 2:00am at night, after breakfast, we finally leave for the peak. The first part of the journey, very variable, progresses to the Hans Mayer cave, a good place to stop, then proceed zig-zag nearing the peak then with an easy last climb we reach Johannes Notch and Gillman’s Point. From here we proceed along the border of the crater passing the Stella Point, where we usually admire the extraordinary sunrise from behind Mawenzi, up until the Uhuru Peak (5 895mt.). After about 5-6 hours, arriving on Africa’s roof, we admire a panorama that will leave you without words and after that we unwillingly start the descent to Horombo Hut.

Day 7: Descend to Marangu Gate, where you will receive a big lunch and after that return to Arusha.

Day 8: Transfer to Nairobi for the last purchases and re-entry.

Day 9: Day for recovery.
